1. For each video list/discuss
the key concepts you learned.
Prairie
style- Is about Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie Style, with its
floating horizontal planes and organic relationship to natural surroundings,
changed the face of modern architecture. In this program, Wright’s lasting legacy is examined both in one of his own designs
and in those of two architects he inspired. This video discusses the reasons
why Wright chose the different active true he did for his homes.
Architecture:
The Science of Design- This video talks about what makes concrete so unique
when it is the most common material in construction. This video also talks
about the procedure that is involved when building high rises in the city.
Before architects begin construction for these building such things as weather
conditions are experimented to make sure that the building will uphold any
condition.
2. How do
the videos relate to the readings in the text?
Prairie
style- relates to the readings in the text because it addresses architecture
and the different meanings behind it. The text talks about how every architect
has a meaning behind the sculptures that they make and in the videos the
speakers talk about Wrights inspiration behind the homes.
Architecture:
The Science of Design-this video relates to the text in terms of the materials
used to construct a building. In the text I read about green architecture and
how certain materials are polluting the environment and what can be used to
keep it healthier. The video touches on what materials should be used when
designing buildings in the city to make sure it is structured strongly in case
of environmentally destruction.
3. What
is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of
Architecture?
Prairie
style-This video helped me understand how architects choose the features they
will use for their models. Wright did different layouts compared to the typical
home and the speakers are sure to address that. For example in one of Wrights
homes the cycling is lowered so it forces the viewer to look out and see the
landscape around the house and what it's worth. This is so etching that really
helped me understand how much thought input into every architects decisions in
building houses.
Architecture:
The Science of Design- This video helped me understand that it is not as simple
as an architect finding a plot of land and start building up. Many different
experimental tests need to be done prior to the construction of the building to
make sure that it is a safe structure and that weather conditions are not going
to effect the building.
4. Why
did you choose the films that you watched?
Prairie
style- I choose to watch this video because there is a Frank Lloyd Wright house
in Buffalo so it has connection to the city that I live in and caught my
interest.
Architecture:
The Science of Design- I choose to watch this video because the green
architecture section in the text really caught my interest in terms of
materials polluting the air. The video helped me understand what materials are
better than others and how the architect decides which materials are going to
be used and why.
